Making free article directories work for you

Email newsletters, blogs and social media are proven tools for small businesses in the bid to win and keep customers. But while many businesses use these mediums, there are many that don’t, and in my experience one of the things that prevents them is the time it takes to develop articles and posts to keep their campaigns ticking over.

It’s a reasonable concern, because developing regular blog and social media posts can be time consuming. While email newsletters can be far less regular, they do still take time and effort to produce.

So, how do you take advantage of the value blogs, social media and email newsletters can provide a small business without consuming too much time? The answer is to use other people’s material to supplement your own articles and posts.

To set the record straight, I’m not advocating you trawl the Internet looking for material you can pinch and plagiarise. That’s immoral at best; illegal at worst. But there are plenty of ways in which you can source other people’s material, use it in your own mediums and provide the appropriate credit. In particular, I’m referring to free article directories.

Free article directories are websites where people can post their own articles to be viewed by others. They are also sites where – as a business person – you can search for and use articles that are relevant to your business. The only proviso is that you use the article in full, including any bio and link section.

This is a win/win situation. As a business, free article directories will help you provide information to your customers and potential customers that they might find interesting and informative. For the writer of the articles, they receive credibility and gain an external link for their own website, a handy thing for search engine optimisation purposes.

Free article directories to give a go

There are heaps of good free article directories to choose from and plenty of not-so-good ones. I’ve listed some of the better known ones below but this is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s a good idea to do a bit of research as there may be some free article directories that will be suited to the types of articles you need for your business.
